At BlueTone Media, we’ve been creating websites since the early 2000s (in fact, this month marks our 15th year anniversary!). Throughout that time, we’ve seen a lot of fads and new functionality come and go. However, the following 7 Website Must-Haves have remained constant during that stretch.
1. Simple, uncluttered, easy-to-read font
You’d think this would be a no-brainer now a days, but we still see several websites that come to us for redesigns that have an array of various fonts, some extremely difficult to read. Try to stay away from bad font choices and avoid going all caps where you can. If you’re on the fence about something being difficult to read, the fact that you’re studying it and not sure...
This month, BlueTone Media turns 15 years old. Take a quick journey with us from where we started, where we are now, and where we're headed next.
The Early Days
It all started like several other tech companies, except instead of a garage, it was a guest bedroom.
Our CEO, Jimmy Honsinger, always had a love for technology and computers. He built his first website way back in 1995 for a local movie theater, and had the innovative idea for business owners to buy ads before the movie trailers started. We are surrounded by so many wonderful restaurants, coffee shops, and small businesses, that truly offer something unique to the community. At least once a week we leave the office for lunch and go on an adventure to see if we can find something new, and more often than not we do. This got me to think about the differences between how local businesses and national companies approach online advertising. Larger companies seem to have a grasp on the need for digital marketing whereas local businesses often ignore the benefits of reaching more of their core market.

If you are running a website and are noticing drops in traffic and fewer conversions, it may be time to consider a redesign. Technology changes fast, and an upgrade with a fresh look may just be the boost that your business or brand needs. Here are six reasons to redesign your site.

If your site has been online for at least three years, it likely needs a new design. Studies have shown that visitors will judge your website within .05 seconds of loading and will leave within 10 seconds if the purpose of your business is not clear. In addition, 75 percent of visitors will use the site design as a measurement of your credibility. This is why a modern and well-maintained website is so important.
